1950 World events

During the 1950's, there was a movement known as the beat movement. This was basically just music changing and adapting. Writers were encouraged to actually write what they felt, and to not fake it for anyone else.Poets were encouraged to write "free verse" which meant that their writings had little, to no structure.

Brinkmanship was a major issue during this time period. By this time in our history, both the United States and the Soviet Union had acquired H-Bombs. And our President, Dwight Eisenhower, was willing to make any measures needed to stop the Soviets. We were ready to go to war and so was the Soviet Union. This was known as brinkmanship.

Since the beginning of World War 2, Hungary had been dominated by the Soviets. But there was an uprising in 1956. Basically, the Hungarians wanted free elections and freedom from the Soviets. The Soviets did not like that idea though, and their reaction to this uprise? They killed 30,000 Hungarians in an effort to make it known that their reign was still very much alive.
